The Best Puppies In The World

Welcome to K9 Talk! Every Wednesday I will be blogging about dogs. I have two very beautiful girls and almost 20 years experience working with and taking care of dogs. From cleaning how to’s to healthy habits I am here to share it all with you! Now allow me to introduce the best girls in the world!

melodyjane

Melody Jane is getting ready to turn 11 Years old in November. I rescued/adopted her from the Southwest Humane Society in January of 2006. I was told when I adopted her that her mother was a Black Lab mix and her father was an Irish Setter. Honestly it doesn’t matter how she got it, I can’t help but love her long wolfy fur. Her white chest and little white tipped paws have been scratched and held since I was 15.

At age 3 she was hit by a car. Our local vet wanted to amputate one her back legs, but my mother and I wanted to see how she would get on. After months of care and getting her hip relocated she walked and ran just fine. She’s been a front wheel drive puppy since. As she has gotten older she does have hip and joint pain, but she never lets it get her down. Living on the farm she became freakishly afraid of storms and anything that goes BANG! Due to this, she has fallen trough ceilings (same one twice I’ll cover that in Story Time Saturday) and climbed walls and windows. Literally. This dog can clear any fence even to this day. Finding what has worked best for her has been fun let me tell ya. Holding her paw seems to do the trick and I’ve been doing so since she was a wee little pup.

In 2013 she moved in with Stephen and I. I have to tell you, I feel a bit replaced. She loves him so much and it’s her greatest joy to woof loudly when daddy comes home.  She has moved everywhere with us and loves road trips. Her favorite toy is a stuffed duck named Paulie and a large solid rubber tire. She loves popcorn and peanut butter. She’s caught many rabbits and squirrels, and gets along well with other dogs and people. Melody is also known as Mellie, Melodious Jane, Princess Puppy Cup, Puppy Cup and MelMel. I believe she is the soul of an old Galapagos Island turtle. It just suits her. So everyone, that’s my Mellie!

Lillian Harmony

Lillian Harmony is the newest addition to the Walcher household. We brought her home in June of 2015. She is still very much a puppy. She will only be turning 2 in March 2017. She doesn’t realize that she is a big puppy though. Her mother was a Black Lab and her father we believe to be an Anatolian Shepard. Even as the ‘runt’ of the littler she is still approaching 85 pounds.

Lilly is the most vocal dog I have ever had. Every morning like clockwork she is our little alarm clock. It’s not a bark, it’s not a howl. It’s just her voice saying “Wake up Dad, I gotta pee!” We adopted her from an amazing group out of Neosho, MO called Faithful Friends Animal Advocates. I can’t thank them enough for what care they gave this baby before she was ours. Out of her almost 2 years on this earth, she has learned to be the best guard dog ever. She is loyal to her people and her sister. Her eyeliner is on fleek, literally the envy of every woman I know. Her ears are adorable, and she can style them how she likes. Even with all her looks, she is still a derp. I’ve gained some major skill in cleaning up dog fur, but we all know it’s just little love fibers floating around. Lillian is quite the jumper and light on her feet. Stephen is trying to teach her to walk and is convinced she can do it. Having her near always results in cuddle time and the best hugs ever.

Her favorite movie is Mulan, and her favorite toys are sticks, and Melody’s tire. I could spend money on toys for days, and yet she gets a stick and that’s the bees knees. Curling up into a little tight ball is her favorite way to sleep. Running and swimming never wear her out. Favorite foods include but are not limited to, water melon and cheddar treats. She is also known as, Lilly, Doge, Lillydoe, Lildoge, Lildoe. and Lillady Anstasia. We like to think she has a Russian accent, splitting up words with the word ‘an’. For instance, “Father I want the an chickan.” (Yes we make up voices for our dogs. Deal with it.) Lilly is such a good girl and we couldn’t be happier to have her.

These dogs are my inspiration for this blog segment. They are both wonderfully unique and each filled with personality. They both require different attention, thus making my life more interesting everyday. Stay tuned for more on these two K9s and I want to hear about yours!
